Panel discussion "Macbeth"

As part of the longstanding cooperation between the Schauspielhaus Bochum and the German Shakespeare Society, Prof. Roland Weidle invited theatre director Johan Simons and actor Stefan Hunstein to a panel discussion on the Schauspielhaus production of Macbeth, which premiered on 12 May 2023.

Performance Project "Shakespeare For Future"

This project is the result of the two-part module "English Drama in Action" taught in the Optionalbereich programme at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in the winter term 2020/21. In the seminar "Early Modern Ecocriticism" taught by Prof. Roland Weidle ten students identified and contextualized ecological concerns in early modern texts by numerous authors of the time. Through creative experimentation in the theatre laboratory taught by Kai Bernhardt (Ruhr-Universität Bochum) and Dr. Niklas Füllner (Universität Koblenz-Landau) the students used the results of the seminar to write, rehearse and ultimately record their digital projects. Staging Shakespeare's Sonnets

These performances concluded the seminar "Staging Shakespeare's Sonnets", held by Prof. Dr. Weidle and Jun.-Prof. Dr. Wächter during the winter semester 2019/20.

Panel discussion "Hamlet"

As part of the longstanding cooperation between the Schauspielhaus Bochum and the German Shakespeare Society, Prof. Roland Weidle invited theatre director Johan Simons and actor Jing Xiang to a panel discussion on the Schauspielhaus production of Hamlet, which premiered on 15 June 2019.

Academy Award nominee Sandra Hüller is part of the ensemble.

Shakespeare-Wochen 2014 in Bochum

To celebrate the 450th anniversary of William Shakespeare's birth, the German Shakespeare Society, the English Department of the Ruhr-University Bochum and the City of Bochum coordinated a four-week festival in which more than 30 institutions, artists and cultural institutions participated. From 18 October to 16 November 2014, theatre performances, concerts, performances, readings, competition presentations, exhibitions, film screenings, conferences, workshops and other events took place at various venues in Bochum, all dealing with the life and work of the British playwright and poet.
